Spiritual Ceremonies
Papillon Weddings specializes in Spiritual Weddings. These are
not legally recognized weddings. A spiritual wedding is
primarily used to reaffirm your commitment to one another or in
a case where you have already signed the marriage papers in your
home country and want to have your spiritual ceremony on the
island.
The Flower Ceremony brings the two of you
together in accepting all parts of your personality and uniting
them. The couple creates a bouquet of flowers which stands for
the beginning of your life together with unlimited potential for
natural growth.
The Ceremony of Four Elements honors the four
directions and elements as the base of your relationship and as
a prayer for a life together in which the material and mental
aspects are balanced with the emotional and spiritual ones.
The Butterfly Ceremony. The butterfly
symbolizes change, a new beginning, love, joy and
spirituality. The butterflies released during your ceremony
represent the new life you are embarking on together. A very
magical moment in your wedding ceremony.
Non Denomination Ceremonies can convey a
religious touch but does not refer to the specific traditions of
any particular denomination. They are designed to fit your
personal views and beliefs.
Special readings, blessings or traditions can be incorporated
into any of our ceremonies as well any of the following
ceremonies.
• The Sand Ceremony
• The Candle ceremony
• The Rose Ceremony
• The Irish Blessing
• The Hand Ceremony
• The Ketubah Reading (for Jewish couples)

The Mayan Wedding Ceremony
is a ritual of unification and purification in which a couple
take their vows based only on love for one another. The
enchanting aspect of Mayan weddings lies in their blend of
innocence, simplicity, the deep inner search for the couple's
spirituality and its connection with the natural world around
them.
Family members and friends form a circle of energy around the
couple who are dressed in white and wear a traditional
embroidered apron called a huipil. Candlelight and flowers help
to create an atmosphere of magic and mystery as the couple is
enveloped in purifying smoke from sacred copal incense.
Calling upon the four elements as witnesses: water, air, earth
and fire, the couple is united with a piece of color cloth
symbolizing the start of a new life together and the end of
their separateness. They exchange gifts and with ancestral
instruments reproducing the sounds of the ocean, wind, birds,
trees and animals, accompany the chants sung in different
indigenous tongues.
