Spiritual
Ceremonies
The Flower Ceremony brings the two
of you together in accepting all parts of your personality and uniting
them. The couple creates a bouquet of flowers which stands for the beginning
of your life together with unlimited potential for natural growth.
The
Ceremony of Four Elements honours the four directions
and elements as the base of your relationship and as a prayer for a life
together in which the material and mental aspects are balanced with the
emotional and spiritual ones.
The
Vow Renewal Ceremony gives couples who are already married
the chance to renew their commitment to one another in a way that reflects
their values.
The Commitment Ceremony is for all
those who want to create a special ceremony which is not a marriage in
the traditional sense. The couple is free to design their own ceremony
with the help of our spiritual minister.
Gays
and Lesbians are not yet able to marry legally in Mexico. Papillon Weddings
is however open to providing all our ceremonies for straight, gay &
lesbian couples alike. Gay and lesbian ceremonies while
not legally recognized in Mexico can, like all our ceremonies, carry the
spiritual weight many couples are looking for.
These
ceremonies are conducted by Sabina Tamm, a licensed spiritual minister.
Her background as a meditation and yoga instructor and her work as a counselor
have given her the necessary preparation and integrity to create and perform
your wedding ceremony so that it is meaningful to you. Sabina’s
goal is to create a strong foundation for the future of the couple in
harmony and alignment with the words, the ceremony and the beauty of nature
which surrounds us.

| The
Mayan Ceremonies
The Mayan culture pervades so much of life on Isla Mujeres and throughout
the Riviera. Dating back to around 2600 BC., the Mayan culture is
still thriving today. The Marriage ceremony, like so many Mayan
rituals, focuses on the spiritual link between the couple and the
earth. Our Mayan ceremonies take place on the beach and the bride
and groom are dressed in traditional Mayan clothing. The ceremonies
are conducted in the Mayan language (written English, Spanish or
French translations are provided), which, with its musical sound,
brings added romance to the occasion.
Spiritual Union/Mayan
Wedding: The Spiritual Mayan Union is a ceremony made up
of two stages. The day prior to the ceremony the couple takes part
in a Mayan sweat lodge ceremony called the Temazcal.
The next day the Spiritual union ceremony is performed in the Mayan
language accompanied by traditional songs, dances, and music.
Mayan Vow Renewal Ceremony: Wedding
Vows already taken, at least 13 moons (one year) ago, during which
time the couple has been living a communal life. The day prior to
the ceremony the couple takes part in a Mayan sweat lodge ceremony
called the Temazcal. The following day the Mayan vow renewal ceremony
takes place (called the Continual Conscience Renovation) accompanied
by traditional songs, dances, and music. The earth’s elements
also play a prominent role in the symbols around this ceremony.

The
Mayan Ceremonies are conducted by either
Moncentlallia Group: Ramsés Stoute (shaman
priest), Dana Arabel and Concepción Cordero.
Shaman Ramsés Stoute: is from the "Yaqui-Seri"
indigenous group and has received the training, the trust and the responsibility
to conduct Traditional Ceremonies; Spiritual Union or Wedding, Initiation
ceremonies, Dance, Singing, and Music Circles, Tobacco Circle, Temazcal
(sweat-lodge) and to use the Traditional Medicine from this indigenous
group as a cultural alternative of "western medicine".
Dana
Arabel: Dana has reached the level of "Tziwamaxtiani"
(Instructor) of the Continues Mexhika (Tezkatlipoka) tradition, based
on the "Nawüi ollin Teotl" (Supreme Balance of Harmony)
through almost 13 years of learning and practice of Ceremonial and Warrior
Dances, rhythms with traditional instruments, music and chants, the Nawüatl
language, Temazkal and introduction to the Mayan Cosmogony.
She is also a graduate of the Center for Choreographic research of Fine
Arts (Mexico City) and has participated in various International Arts
festivals, creating ancestral dances, which focus on the movement of the
Sacred Animals, based on the old manuscripts and ancestral signs. She
also uses ancient Mexican steps that are still used in Mexican Culture
today. Her role in the Traditional Ceremonies is to bring the essence
of the knowledge of the ancestral cosmogony of the Mexican homeland, as
well as to balance, harmonize and synthesize the subtle energies used
in the rituals.

Sunrise, Sunset and Full Moon Ceremonies
Check your wedding date against our Full Moon Calendar because a
night time beach wedding under the bright gaze of the full moon
is something special! We can also arrange both Sunrise and Sunset
Ceremonies, especially wonderful on Isla Mujeres since the Sun rises
on one side of the island and less than 2 km away, sets on the other
side.
